Accountability sub-committees considering changes
As a result of the district-wide accountability meeting on May 2, several issues will be studied by the TABE and attendance accountability subcommittees, reported Richard Yawn, WSD director of Operational Support and facilitator of the meeting. In response to input from teachers at various campuses regarding "OV" scores, the use of the TABE test has been studied extensively by Veronica Casanova, director of Counseling and Testing.

"As a result of these studies, recommendations for modifications in the establishing of baseline scores and OV levels on the composite will be reviewed by the TABE subcommittee," Casanova said.

"Accountability data indicates that the great majority of students who move to a higher level of the TABE are credited with making progress," Yawn said.

The attendance subcommittee will consider a proposal to base percent of student attendance calculations on the best 180 days of attendance instead of all attendance days. Yawn indicated that these recommendations could be expected sometime during this summer. He encourages interested persons to contact his office or WSD teacher representatives for more information.
