Hobby Unit take part in a class demonstration during Career and Technology
Educators’ (CTE) Week. These offenders are working with brake systems in
one of the unit’s three CTE programs. Each work day, Windham’s 275 CTE
teachers arrive at prisons and state jails throughout the state to teach
industry skills to eligible offenders. Last school year more than 16,000
students attended Windham vocational classes, increasing their opportunities
for successful future employment.
With input from industry and business representatives, Windham has restructured the majority of its CTE programs to provide students with entry-level skills as defined by industry standards. Windham offers training in 39 different trades. Students can earn certificates such as Automotive Service Excellence (ASE); the Wheels of Learning certificate from the National Center for Construction, Education and Research (NCCER); the A+ certificate for computer repair and refurbishing and certificates for pesticide handling, refrigerant recovery, and many other job skills. |
