Parenting & Family Wellness

WSD offers a 30-day Parenting & Family Wellness program at a few facilities. The curricular content of the Parenting & Family Wellness program includes The Middle Way Parent Education Program, a communication-based, interactive program that supports the development of healthy family relationships. The program addresses compassionate assertiveness, empathic/active listening, empowerment and other skills to strengthen family relationships. Participants engage in an introspective process of positive personal change.

Bienestar para Padres y Familias (Parenting & Family Wellness)

WSD ofrece un programa de Bienestar para Padres y Familias de 30 días en algunas instalaciones. El contenido curricular del programa Parenting & Family Wellness incluye The Middle Way Parent Education Program, un programa interactivo basado en la comunicación que apoya el desarrollo de relaciones familiares saludables. El programa aborda la asertividad compasiva, la escucha empática / activa, el empoderamiento y otras habilidades para fortalecer las relaciones familiares. Los participantes se involucran en un proceso introspectivo de cambio personal positivo.

Perspectives and Solutions

A 15-day program entitled Perspectives and Solutions is offered at intake facilities. In this progressive program, students explore cultural diversity, personal identity, stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination (including racial, ethnic, religious, gender, age, sexual orientation, and physical disability). Students also receive extensive exposure to problem solving techniques.

Perspectivas y Soluciones (Perspectives and Solutions)

Se ofrece un programa de 15 días titulado Perspectivas y Soluciones en las instalaciones de admisión. En este programa progresivo, los estudiantes exploran la diversidad cultural, la identidad personal, los estereotipos, los prejuicios y la discriminación (incluidos los de raza, etnia, religión, género, edad, orientación sexual y discapacidad física). Los estudiantes también reciben una amplia exposición a técnicas de resolución de problemas.

Technology education supports job training

Pearson North America, an international education publishing and assessment service, supports Windham efforts to prepare residents for post-release careers through high-level job training.

    The Superintendent of the Windham School District has legal responsibility for all operations of the school district and reports directly to the Windham School Board (Texas Board of Criminal Justice).     The Administrative Assistant provides clerical support, coordinates scheduling, and maintains school board records.

    The General Counsel of Legal Services advises the Superintendent on various legal issues in order to ensure district compliance with all applicable state and federal legal requirements.

    Public Information Officer

    The Public Information Officer publicizes news and accomplishments of the staff and students of the Windham School District to campuses within the district as well as to the outside media and public. This includes:

    ·          Publishing brochures, pamphlets, and other materials to promote better understanding of goals, programs or operations of the Windham School District.

    ·          Contributing news to the monthly inmate newspaper, The ECHO, as well as to other publications.

    ·          Serving as a resource person to schools and other departments in the preparation of publications and public information materials.

    ·          Assisting the Superintendent in coordinating various aspects of the District's public relations effort.

    ·          Photographing special events, students, staff, and programs.

    ·          Serving as a liaison between WSD and the news media by providing news releases, answering requests for information, coordinating interviews and visits, and organizing media conferences.

    ·          Receiving inquiries, correspondence, and visitors to the District, thereby assisting the public in gaining a better understanding of the programs of WSD.

    ·          Supervising production of The ECHO, TDCJ's residents newspaper.

    ·          Coordinating WSD’s statewide teacher recognition initiative: The Lane Murray Excellence in Teaching Award.
